Ed Meyerson has five good reasons for starting the Mike Slive Foundation: His grandsons. “I have five grandsons, and 1 out of every 7 men are going to get prostate cancer. Naturally, he asked, ‘What can we do to make the statistics more meaningful for them?’” Ed started on UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center board 28 years ago to support the fight against cancer. It was his impetus to start a prostate cancer research foundation in Alabama, which has become the Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research.

As a cancer survivor, when the opportunity came for him to serve on the Board of the Mike Slive Foundation, Joel took a “leave of absence” from the Advisory Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center in order to help find a cure for prostate cancer. Joel and his wife, Bunny, have twin 7-year old grandsons, Asher & Noah, who they hope will not have to face the life-threatening effects of prostate cancer.
Charlie co-founded Highlands Associates in 1987. He is currently Chairman of the firm and serves as the Chair of the Investment Committee for the UAB Heath Services Foundation, Chair of the Rotary Club of Birmingham Foundation, Chair of the Alys Stephens Center Corporate Board, as well as the Board of the Health Services Foundation. Now including the Mike Slive Foundation, Charlie spends the majority of his time serving the community through many non-profit organizations, as well as with his three children and four (and counting!) grandchildren.
Harry has served the community since 1967 providing insurance, estate planning & financial services to help his clients achieve a lifetime of financial security. He was honored as a key member of the Birmingham community when he received the Outstanding Community Service Award from the organization of the National Conference for Community and Justice in Alabama in 2007. Harry has served as active Chairman of many Boards and organizations, now including serving on the Board of the Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research. When he is not in the office or donating his time to the community, you will find him spending time with his children and grandchildren.
