BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – The Mike Slive Foundation is bringing the spotlight to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with numerous events and initiatives that will kick off in September.
On Thursday, September 27that 6 p.m. at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, the Foundation will host its annual event, I’m With Mike. Paul Finebaum, sports author, television and radio personality, and longtime friend of Slive, will host the evening. In attendance will be collegiate coaches and administrators, including SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, Alabama Head Men’s Basketball Coach Avery Johnson, Auburn Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl, Kentucky Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Calipari, UAB Head Men’s Basketball Coach Rob Ehsan and others. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction filled with unique, items such as a limited edition Mike Slive Foundation Maker’s Mark bourbon bottle, a seat at the table with the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for a Mock Selection, tickets to the SEC Football Championship Game and the College Football Championship game, VIP behind-the-scenes experiences and more.
UAB Football has also partnered with the Mike Slive Foundation for its September 29thhome game against Charlotte, which will recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness month with an on-field check presentation to the Foundation during the game. Members of the UAB Athletics Foundation board have pledged $25,000 as a challenge gift to the Mike Slive Foundation and already have surpassed that figure. “When we launched the Mike Slive Foundation last fall, we knew that we had a special opportunity to utilize the platform of athletics in the fight against prostate cancer,” said Anna Slive Harwood, President of the Foundation. “This is our chance to make a difference and play a leading role in eliminating prostate cancer. I’m doing this for my father. He was doing this for each of us. He said he was doing this so none of us would ever have to go through what he went through.”
