BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – Over the last two years, the Mike Slive Foundation has seen an overwhelming reception to their mission of raising awareness and research funding for prostate cancer. The Foundation has raised over $500,000 for prostate cancer research in less than two years and funded seven prostate cancer research grants all through the work of a volunteer board of directors.
Effective August 1 st , the Mike Slive Foundation Board of Directors appointed Anna Slive Harwood as its initial Executive Director. Anna worked closely with her father, former SEC and Conference USA Commissioner Mike Slive, to help establish the Foundation before his passing last May.
As Executive Director, Anna will be responsible for the overall operation of the Foundation and will work closely with the Board and its Staff to ensure the Foundation’s mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach. Anna has been President of the Board for the past year, helping to run the day-to-day operations of the Foundation. She transitions from her role as Vice President at the Colonnade Group. Prior to that, she was a Director of Marketing at IMG College. In 2007, she was the Executive Director of the Atlanta Local Organizing Committee for the NCAA Men’s Final Four. A job with the Georgia Tech Athletic Association brought her to Atlanta in 2004 after she finished her Master’s Degree at University of Massachusetts. Anna’s corporate experience includes marketing and advertising at both Arthur Andersen and Leo Burnett in Chicago. She is a graduate of Northwestern University.In addition to Anna’s hiring, Emily Capilouto has been named Director of Education and Outreach. In her role, Emily will oversee all education and outreach programs and help manage the Foundation’s grant process.
Emily has served as a consultant to the Foundation for a year. She received her Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology from UAB in 2012 and Masters of the Arts in Medical Anthropology from the University of Kentucky in 2018. Her academic research focused on detection and prevention of reproductive cancers and access to reproductive healthcare in domestic and international settings. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for the last decade at the local, state, and federal level.
The Foundation Board announced several changes as well. Lee Edwards of Edwards Chevrolet has been named Board president, and Sam Miller of Burton Advertising has been selected to also serve on the Executive Committee. New Board members in the last year include: Sam Miller, Burton Advertising; Hatton Smith, CEO emeritus of Royal Cup Co; Tommy Brigham, Chairman and Founding Partner of ARC Realty; Michelle Clemon of the The Clemon Consulting Group; Jimmy Lee, III of Buffalo Rock/Pepsi; and Jason Biddy, CEO of Urology Centers of Alabama.
