Mike Slive Foundation’s I’m With Mike 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk is Back With Both In-Person and Virtual Races in June
BIRMINGHAM, AL –The Mike Slive Foundation’s sixth annual I’m With Mike 5K run and 1-mile walk to raise awareness of prostate cancer is set for both in-person and virtual races on Saturday, June 24 at 8 a.m. CST.
Runners, walkers, and prostate cancer survivors from across the state will join to put a spotlight on prostate cancer awareness. Birmingham Mountain Radio’s Will Lochamy will be emcee of the race in Birmingham.
The in-person 5K race and 1-mile walk will begin at the parking lot of The Battery Sports Bar parking lot in Homewood at 8 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three male and female 5K finishers, top prostate cancer survivor in the 5K, overall first place in the 5K, individual with the most funds raised, team with the most funds raised and for overall first place in the 5K for each age bracket. There will also be a Kids Dash at 7:45 a.m. If you choose to sleep in and still want to help raise awareness, choose the Doze for Dad. Sleep in and still make a difference.
“We’re excited about this year’s race – keeping both in-person and virtual options. Our goal is to have representation from all 50 states to help raise awareness about prostate cancer, a disease that affects one in eight men,” said Anna Slive Harwood, Executive Director of the Mike Slive Foundation. “With Father’s Day in June, it is the perfect time to remind fathers, and all the men in your life over 40, to have a conversation with their doctor about prostate cancer screening. Early detection saves lives. Let’s come together to make sure that we don’t lose more family and friends to prostate cancer.”
Register at ImWithMike5K.com by June 9 to guarantee your shirt and size selection before the race weekend. Registration is $35. Your support goes towards the Mike Slive Foundation’s mission of savings lives by funding cutting-edge research and raising awareness of prostate cancer.
All participants, whether in-person or virtual, are encouraged to photograph themselves and post on social media, tagging the Foundation (@MikeSliveFdn) on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, also using the #ImWithMike to show support.
